A Welcome Note to all! . . .

Dear Random Stranger,

It seems that you have stumbled upon my beloved little blog by mistake and are most probably asking yourself a very crucial question: “what am I doing here?”. Believe me, you’re not the only one, as I am also engaged in somewhat of a similar thought process at this very moment.

Well, the answer is pretty much clear, we are both suffering from a severe case of procrastination, no no, no, its not as serious as you think, so stop worrying.

That being said, I am most probably at work right now, doing nothing work-related with the exception of sipping a nice hot cup of tea (professional work ethics dictate that one must consume ample amounts of tea/coffee during a routine work day for maximum productivity and optimum efficiency).

Hence, in order to utilize this extra time in the best possible manner, I have decided to start posting on my blog once again!.... Chances are that most of the written material found here will be socially and culturally insensitive, verbally abusive, grammatically confusing and practically useless. So, incase you have loads of hours to kill at your employers’ expense, then feel free to wander about trying to make sense of whatever is posted. Otherwise, kindly return to your boring (yet ridiculously highly paid) job and continue to be a working member of society.

Best Regards,
Mikaal

Mikaal's Laws for surviving 4 years at SZABIST

Inspired by "Murphy's Laws"

  1. Whenever you're late, the class will start on time.
  2. When you're on time, the teacher will be late.
  3. If you think you're gonna fail the quiz/hourly/mid/final, you will!.
  4. If you think you will pass the quiz/hourly/mid/final, you'll still fail but with some shreds of dignity.
  5. 8 am classess suck!...live with it!.
  6. The availablity of food at the cafetaria, is indirectly proportional to the amount of money you have.
  7. Smoking on an empty stomach on a long day at university is a very bad idea.
  8. Not smoking at all is an even worse idea.
  9. Sleeping during lectures is ok only if your sitting in the last row.
  10. Sleeping in the front row is ok, as long as the teacher is dozing off on the seat next to you.
  11. Whenever you miss a class, there will be a quiz.
  12. Even if you attend the class, it doesn't matter because you forgot about the quiz anyway.
  13. If you think you're prepared for the exam, think again!
  14. Bunking a class is a good idea as long as the teacher doesnt find out/doesn't know your name.
  15. The course instructor is always right.
  16. Coffee helps! have loads of it.
  17. If you have missed an important class, the chances that your friends have'nt is next to zero.
  18. The course instructor is GOD, respect them, they are the one who award you the grades.
  19. If you failed a course the first time, rest assure you will fail it again the second time.
  20. A 3.8 gpa is just a myth.
  21. A 3.5 gpa is a distant dream.
  22. A 3.3 gpa is possible.
  23. A 2.6 gpa is reality.
  24. Mp3 players are man's greatest invention, buy one!. You will have your share of long boring lectures.
  25. If you dont own an mp3 player, make sure you have enough friends who do and are always willing to lend you their 'ipod'.
  26. Why go for an A+ at 95 when you can get a C at 60 and still pass the course, if objections: refer to laws 20-23.
  27. People who get scholarships were raised that way, you were'nt, go blame your parents.
  28. If you're failing a course, you will fail. There is no such thing as miracles, be a man/woman and face the facts, start making up excuses to tell your parents.
  29. If you are a TA, God be with you.
  30. If the course instructor is wrong refer to law 15.

All for now. More Laws, ammendments etc will be posted soon. Suggestions/new ideas are welcome:) . If you want to criticize, go ahead! you will be ignored. Nobody likes a whinner.

currently listening to Strings: Zinda/yeh hai meri kahani

i haf been completely hooked on this song for the past God knows how many weeks...it may sound lame but its one of those songs that actually makes u think abt..well anything and everything.

moving on from my current state of mind which is a very delicate combination of 'post conference high'(i'll explain later) and the ongoing semester which brings wid it hourlies, quizzes, 8 am classes etc. There are lotsa other things too but i'll refrain from mentioning them at this point in time.......may be later..BUT..no promises!.

So,..bak from NLC which was simply *AMAZING* , i dunt think i haf ever had so much fun in my life before....well yeh we had to give up sleep but it was worth it..thinkin abt it, i actually realized that the time spent by myself sleeping in a normal day is equivalent to the accumulated sleeping time for the 5 days the conference lasted.....do the math!..

so where do i start......so much to write about..
let me begin from the beginning..;)

=High B.P. at the Karachi Cantt. train station because certain people decided to get a hair cut less than a hour before we were supposed to leave...finally they showed up in the nick of time..yes rabia!...i'm talking abt you!..

=So we reached Lahore around 4 hours late and i had to stay bak wid Saba and Moiz(@ lhr) to book the return tix...it took us a lil while and we reached LUMS 2 minz b4 opening plenary, it was kinda funny and ironic,,,,walking into the plenary wid my shouder bag, messy hair, no time to shower and clothes not ironed..welll u get the picture right!...
=Ice Breakers; a really kool @ game to get to know the ppl around u
=2nd day..6 hr bus ride to Islamabad
=More sessions
=veggie food for dinner
=MCP elections...Congratz Emad..looking forward to see u in khi
=Party..;)...........
=Tony conference..;)..:P
=3rd day, opening plenary
=more sessions which meant more dozing off in between sessions
=commission time
=bonding
=Dying to have coffee
=veggie food for lunch
=gossip
=MCVP elections........Congratz Saira, Kurt and Joanna
=Veggie food for dinner
=Party...:)
=2nd tony conferecnce.....President and EB were selected....(Congratz to Aqeel for becoming Presdent and also congratz to Ammar, Sharmeen and myself for being selected for the EB)
=4th day
=morning plenary.....gossip box......national joke!......enuff said
=more sessions to catch up on lost sleep
=more bonding
=more veggie food for lunch
=Awards night..congratz to evryone.........im too lazy to type all those names;)
=Tori's speech ....WoW.......we luv u mommy:)
=Party
=Sugar Cubes
=5th and last day
=Willing to sell my soul for coffee
=closing plenary.....emotinal roller coaster for evry1 who was there...........
=bus ride bak to lahore......more bonding on the bus;)
=dinner at Turka.....Amazing food.....
=20 hour train ride bak to khi
=Bak in Karachi

Note: This entire journey/trip/adventure was supported by an endless supply of ciggarettes and tony jokes in order to keep us consistent with that thin line between sanity and paagal pana ...khatam shud
